Paul Trickett memorial page

Of all the many people I have met in the world of wargaming, few could match the sunny disposition, happy demeanour and sheer good bloke-ishness of Paul Trickett. A talented painter and great terrain builder, Paul put on fantastic Demo Games with Dean Whitehouse, many of which adorned the pages of Wargames Illustrated and served as an inspiration to me and many others. The first time I met Paul at a Partizan show, as well as consoling ourselves about the failing fortunes of Aston Villa, we spent ages talking terrain, figure painting and games. The sudden and tragic loss of Paul in March 2000 at the age of just 33 hit everyone who knew him. Hard.
His wargaming partner, Dean, made sure his figures found "good homes", and the 1812 Retreat from Moscow skirmish figures came to the League of Augsburg, and now reside in my cabinet.
The final word goes to Dean:
"Always ready with ideas, full of knowledge, patient with even the most wayward rule twister, and certainly one of the best figure painters and terrain builders the hobby has produced. Never without a smile on his face, helpful and considerate, known by many for his love of a good Chinese or Indian meal. Anyone who ever met Paul, can only remember with a smile and regret a person the hobby will sadly miss. But also happy memories to all who got pleasure from Paul's company and his excellent games."
